Scientists (f/m/d) for Numerical Modeling & Simulation of In-Flight Icing and/or Advanced Propulsion Systems for Aircrafts

Aufgaben

  • Investigate and simulate in-flight icing characteristics, ice protection technologies and advanced propulsion systems of current and upcoming aircraft configurations, including development of new methodologies and improved numerical models for digital twin
  • Conduct research tests and experimental campaigns to validate and benchmark models, and develop new AI-enhanced approaches
  • Interface with experienced scientists and engineers in the field of aerospace across Europe
  • Work in direct contact with European Institutions and international partners from research and industry on multi-annual large-scale collaborative projects
  • Build your own network and contribute to the definition of strategic research direction, preparing proposals for new projects
  • Publish results in high-ranking journals and support other scientists in doing so
  • Supervise PhD and Master students

Profil

  • PhD-level qualification in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or closely related discipline with focus on aircraft design; alternatively MSc-level qualification with relevant professional experience and traceable scientific publication record
  • Proven experience in at least one of: (i) aircraft design, (ii) in-flight icing, (iii) aircraft hydrogen fuel systems and propulsion systems for aerospace
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB (including Simulink), C/C++, or similar languages
  • Understanding of 3D modelling methods (finite volume and/or finite element approaches) and experience with industrial design and computational tools (e.g. ANSYS, Modelica, Dymola)
  • Experience in testing laboratories, wind tunnel testing, and/or flight testing considered a plus; knowledge of flight dynamics also an advantage
  • Experience in industrial aerospace projects and/or European research programmes (e.g. Horizon Europe, Clean Aviation)
  • High level of motivation to pursue scientific or research-oriented career with strong self-motivation and personal drive
  • Excellent communication skills in English with proficiency in technical writing; knowledge of German desirable

Wir bieten

The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38.5 h/week) for the position as Scientist according to the collective agreement is EUR 61,334. The actual salary will be determined individually based on qualifications and experience. Additional offerings include company benefits, flexible working conditions, individual training and career opportunities. Starting date is expected in Q3 2026 (flexible).
